One would expect this seemingly fashion-conscious man to own many types of glasses and switch them around depending on the occasion, but in reality his personality is such that he prefers to use the same thing as long as humanly possible. Be it his tenaciousness in pursuing the Ouroboros mystery, the overall excellence that made him the top student of the Hero Academy, or the conscientiousness with which he even learned the bomb disposal technique, many episodes of his life suggest a temperament for which having 5 pairs of the same thing is very fitting. Also, the detached, hexagonal-shaped lenses go well with his intelligence and aggressive youthful energy.

>Since he owns 5 pairs of the same glasses, is it because he is particular about the design?
>Matsui: This is just my personal opinion, but I don’t think he cares. He considers them a tool and is fussy about the functionality, but their design doesn’t really matter to him. Their shape is rather characteristic, but those are actually quite simple and normal glasses.
>If you were to put some other glasses on him, what would they look like?
>Matsui: Some vintage ones with tortoiseshell frames. We are talking about the world where it wouldn’t cause an animal rights related issue however.
>What does he think about glasses?
>Matsui: He most likely considers them a tool to compensate for his bad eyesight, nothing more. The lenses however are probably high-quality and made with the cutting-edge technology.
>What about Kotetsu, what glasses do you think would suit him?
>Matsui: He could try achieving a mature look and buy himself some silver-rimmed glasses. Or perhaps a slightly “bad” (laugh) image and put on some sunglasses.
>What about the other Heroes? Who do you think could look good in glasses?
>Matsui: Dragon Kid, maybe. From a bokukko to a meganekko?
>Saitou-san is also one of the glasses-wearing guys, isn’t he.
>Matsui: It’s hard to imagine him without glasses. Doing something like “Remove glasses and he’s actually handsome!” might be fun. Just joking!
>Is there anything you would like to say to the fans eagerly awaiting the movie?
>Matsui: Yet another glasses wearing guy might (?) appear, so look forward to to seeing it in September!

>What’s in the shape?
>Barnaby is the intellectual type, but physical strength is necessary for his Hero work. The sharp shape with many angles symbolizes a man accomplished in both arts and sciences and martial arts.
>Glasses-free
>He doesn’t wear glasses while in the suit. Hundred Power helps to enhance his vision while active, while the suit’s functionality takes care of it when he’s in the depowered state. Contacts might also be an option. If we go by Kotetsu’s rather dramatic statement, it seems that without glasses the length of his eyelashes is quite striking.
>Removing them before going to sleep
>All his pairs of glasses are the same, so even if one of them breaks it won’t create a problem for him. Nevertheless, even when he and Kotetsu got drunk and eventually fell asleep on the floor, he took care to properly remove his glasses beforehand. Incidentally, the first thing he uttered after waking up was “What have I done…”.
>His eyesight is actually quite poor?
>With the visual acuity 0.03, it can be said that his eyes are really bad and at this point glasses are truly indispensable for him. He wasn’t wearing glasses 21 years ago (when his parents were murdered), yet during the confrontation with the tattoed Ouroboros member Benjamin 9 years ago he is shown as bespectacled. Just how much strain has accumulated during those years?
